Proposed Criteria for Establishing Museum Sites Based on the Conservation of Archaeological Sites

Today, conservation goes beyond merely preserving the physical remains of the past; the quality of conservation, the manner of presenting artifacts, and establishing meaningful connections with audiences have gained significant importance. One of the innovative and effective approaches that has brought remarkable changes in archaeological studies is the transformation of archaeological sites into museum sites. This method not only facilitates the protection of artifacts but also enables safe visitation and a better understanding of them by the general public and researchers.

The establishment of museum sites focuses on the location, identity, and comprehension of history, aiming to preserve the authenticity of archaeological sites and transmit historical knowledge. In this study, by examining documents, conventions, international declarations, analyzing expert opinions, and reviewing related literature, fundamental concepts and necessary criteria for creating museum sites have been identified.

The goal is to preserve historical artifacts in their original context and display them in situ so that visitors can have a genuine experience of the past without damaging the artifacts. This research aims to develop a comprehensive framework for the conservation of archaeological sites and the establishment of museum sites. The main research question is: What are the effective criteria for creating museum sites and conserving cultural heritage sites, and how can they be evaluated? The research methodology is based on descriptive and analytical analyses, utilizing field sources, oral histories, library research, and documentary data.
